ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) on Monday lauded its men and women for their role in the peaceful and orderly May 14 elections.

Members of the Regional Joint Security Command Center 6, composed of PRO-6 Director Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Assistant Regional Director lawyer Tomas S. Valera, and Col. Vincent Reyes of the Internal Affairs Office of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), led in honoring the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Senior Supt. Remus Zacharias P. Canieso, chief of the Regional Directorial Staff, said they deployed a 532-member security contingent to help secure the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

“The essential mission of the PNP is to provide security to ensure the safe, credible and honest conduct of the Barangay and SK elections in our region,” he added.

“The security was sufficient, we are happy and thank you for not failing the election,” Valera said.

Binag said no major crime incident occurred during the one-month election period.

In addition to police officers who rendered election duty, also commended were participants in the first swim-for-a cause in Western Visayas that covered almost 2.5 nautical miles, or more than 5 km., from Iloilo’s Fort San Pedro to Jordan, Guimaras.

A total of 40 participants joined the event — 14 PNP personnel and 26 civilians from different provinces and cities of Western Visayas.

The event, organized by the Regional Advisory Council for Police Transformation and Development (RACPTD), was conducted to generate funds for PNP personnel who were wounded-in-action.

Supt. Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said the event raked in PHP483,150 in total revenues. (By Isaiah Junio and John Michael Ramos/PNA)
