Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo narrowly missed the bronze medal of the Tokyo Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics vault finals at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo on Monday evening (August 2).
The 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games vault silver-medalist scored 14.716 points and finished fourth overall, a shade below bronze-medalist Artur Davtyan of Armenia who tallied 14.733 points.
Jeahwan Shin of Korea bagged the gold medal, followed by second placer Dennis Abliazin of Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) who both scored 14.783 points.
The 21-year-old athlete’s falling short of a podium finish at the vault finals formally ends his 2020 Olympics journey. Yulo entered the finals after scoring 14.712 in the qualifiers which placed him at the sixth top spot.
Yulo missed the finals for his pet event floor exercise after scoring 13.566 points on July 24. He gained a gold medal in 2019 for the same event in Stuttgart, Germany.
In 2018, he took home a bronze in the floor exercise in Doha Qatar. (PTV News)/AG-rir
