15 teams compete in PRO-6 regional SWAT challenge

ILOILO CITY — Fifteen SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) teams from Western Visayas competed in the 2018 Regional SWAT Challenge of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6), said Superintendent Joem Malong, spokesperson of PRO-6, on Wednesday.

Eleven teams from the provincial and city police offices from the six provinces of the region; two from the Special Action Force (SAF) and one team from each of the Philippine Army and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 6 (BJMP-6), joined the competition held at the Firing Range of Camp Delgado on Tuesday.

The SWAT challenge aims to measure and enhance the capability of SWAT units and improve their operational coordination, she said in an interview.

It also aims to identify the best team that will represent Western Visayas in the national SWAT challenge. The teams were tested in terms of their skills and capabilities in handling practical and realistic simulation courses.

The SWAT challenge is among the highlights of Tuesday’s 117th Police Service Anniversary (PSA) celebration in PRO-6. The result of the competition is yet to be announced.

The winners of the competition will be announced next week as the police officials are now focused on the encounter in Barangay Atabay in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique were seven communist rebels were killed early morning Wednesday.

Last week, some personnel under the PRO-6 also showcased their talents like in music and dancing, as well as present their different uniforms in an event dubbed “PASUNDAYAG 2018: Mini concert and Cop Walk”.

Held at Robinsons Place Iloilo, the event is also part of the PSA celebration here to promote good relationship between the men and women in uniform in Western Visayas and the community. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
