2022 Elections guidelines eyed toward yearend

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is set to release the final guidelines for campaigning and voting process in the last quarter of this year for the upcoming 2022 National Elections.

COMELEC Chairperson Sheriff Abas reported in the Laging Handa Public Briefing on Tuesday that they are still evaluating almost all health protocols for the canvassing and counting of votes.

“Iyong lumalabas na iba-ban ang face-to-face [campaigns], ito’y mga kuro-kuro lang o opinyon ng iba nating opisyal (The reported banning of face-to-face campaigns is just an opinion of other officials). As to the official policy of the COMELEC, wala pa tayong inilalabas (we haven’t released anything yet),” Chairperson Abas clarified.

An assessment will be conducted on the Palawan plebiscite on March 13 which will be used as basis for the conduct of the elections next year.

“Ang aming naging polisiya sa plebesito ay most likely gagawin din natin sa panahon ng halalan… Limang tao lang ang pwede pumasok sa presinto (The policy for the plebiscite will most likely be done in the election season… Only five individuals can enter the precinct),” the COMELEC chief concluded. – Report from Mica Joson
