350 personnel to secure Iloilo City’s traffic for opening of classes

ILOILO CITY — The Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) is now ready to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in this city in time for the opening of classes this Monday.

In an interview Friday afternoon, Jeck Conlu,Head of PTSMO said they will deploy around 350 personnel from the office’s Special Service Unit (SSU), Anti-Illegal Squatting and Illegal Structure (ASIS) and traffic auxiliaries to different schools – especially public schools in this city – to manage traffic.

He said they are expecting that there will be traffic jam in different areas near the schools in this city on Monday because of the number of ongoing road repairs.

“Starting next week our priority will be the roads going to schools,” he said.
He said he has constant communication with City District Engineer Rodney Gustilo on how to fast track the completion of the road projects.

He called on the contractors of the projects to work 24/7 to hasten the rehabilitation, especially that rains are now being experienced.

He added that they should also assure that alternative lanes near the roads undergoing rehabilitation are available for the use of private vehicles.

Meantime, Conlu said that they will intensify operations against illegal parking violators and other obstructions on the roads going to schools.

Conlu is also planning to meet with transport groups to address the problem on shortage of public jeepneys, especially when it rains. (Cindy Ferrer with reports from John Michael Ramos & Isaiah Junio/PNA)
