5 Ilocos Norte public schools to get computers

LAOAG CITY — Students from at least five selected public schools in Ilocos Norte are the latest recipients of computers courtesy of Alorica Teleservices Inc., a business processing outsourcing (BPO) company in the province.

Formerly known as Expert Global Solutions, Alorica keeps on growing its market niche with established i-hubs at the government-owned Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena and at the Valdez Center in nearby San Nicolas town.

Backing the education program of the Ilocos Norte government, Matilde Neri, head of the provincial education department, reported Tuesday the 50 units of computers are being readied for distribution for the coming school year.

“This is part of our governor’s vision to uplift our public education system through the use of computers which will be readily available for the students when they need to research,” said Neri.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP or Provincial Board) have authorized Governor Ma. Imelda Marcos to enter into a memorandum of agreement with Alorica to receive computer units.

Neri said this is the second batch of computer donations from Alorica as hundreds of computers were donated to some far-flung schools in the first district of Ilocos Norte in previous years.

For her part, Schools Division Superintendent Vilma Eda said she is grateful for the provincial government of Ilocos Norte for facilitating the donation of computers to the different public schools in the province geared towards the establishment of model 21st century classrooms. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
