Cabinet members cast votes on Election Day

MANILA — Members of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Cabinet were among the over 60 million Filipinos who cast their votes during Monday’s mid-term national and local elections.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar was among the first to vote at 6:30 a.m. at the Pedro E. Diaz High School in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles cast his vote at the Palma Gil Elementary School in Davao City at 2:23 p.m. He was accompanied by his wife, social entrepreneur Marga Maceda Montemayor.

After initially having difficulty finding his name on the voter’s list, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo cast his vote at the  Kapitan Moy Elementary School in Marikina Heights, Marikina around 3 p.m.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is hoping to surpass the 81 percent voter turnout during the 2016 elections.

A data from the Comelec shows that there 61,843,750 registered voters who were to elect senators (12 of 24), members of House of Representatives including party-list, governors, vice-governors, party-list representatives, district representatives, governors, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board members), mayors, vice-mayors, and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod/members of the Sangguniang Bayan (city/municipal councilors).
