DAVAO CITY – Filipino super bantamweight Jelbirt “Panther” Gomera lost via technical knockout to Ryan Burnett of the United Kingdom at the Ulster Hall in Belfast on Friday night.

It was the sixth loss suffered by Gomera, who holds a record of 14 wins and 7 knockouts while Burnett scored his 20th victory and 10th knockout win and 1 loss.

“Gomera’s loss was also caused by the late approval of the Games and Amusements Board that resulted in the late application and release of the UK visa,” said Darwin Miller Angelo Dep-ay of the Highland Boxing Promotion.

It also led to the re-booking of ticket because of the visa problems.

“Gomera also suffered a jet lag for almost 19 hours travel and had a late arrival in Belfast. They almost had 12 hours late after the official weigh-in,” Dep-ay said.

He allegedly also got poor treatment from the staff and promoter in Belfast.

“He was not able to plaster the hand and warm-up before the fight as there was no staff to assist them with the schedule,” Dep-ay said.

“They were not allowed to go out from their room and check on the ongoing fight,” he added.
