Bureau of Customs (BOC) ‘fixer’ Mark Taguba on Monday said that he paid P92 million to customs officials.
Taguba confessed during the continuation of the Senate blue ribbon committee’s hearing on P6.4-Billion shabu shipment from China.
“Nasa 92 million [pesos],” he admits when asked about the terms of the BOC officials of ‘tara,’ clarifying that fixers were paid by importers to make their cargoes ship quicker and without delay.
Under the ‘tara’ system, BOC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said, custom’s officials were being paid for every single shipment entering the country from P31,000 up to P71,000.
He earlier submitted counter-affidavits before the Department of Justice against the criminal complaint filed against him and two other individuals regarding the said P6.4B shipment.
