LRTA, PNP ink deal on crime prevention

MANILA — To secure the Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2) and its passengers, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) signed Tuesday a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on information dissemination on crime prevention and immediate provision of police assistance.

LRTA administrator Reynaldo I. Berroya, PNP Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and National Capital Region Police Office Director Oscar Albayalde signed the agreement at the LRT-2 Araneta Center-Cubao Station.

The MOA states that the PNP will conduct quarterly emergency drills to prepare LRT-2 employees, security personnel and passengers in case of emergency situations.

A PNP Women’s Desk will also be installed at the Santolan, Cubao and Recto stations to prevent incidents of sexual harassment in LRT-2 premises.

Free rides will likewise be provided to policemen who are in full uniform and have a valid ID while information materials on crime prevention, as well as safety and security awareness on criminal activities will be posted inside the trains and stations.

Berroya said the partnership between the LRTA and the PNP will help ensure the safety and security of the riding public.

“Our responsibility is not only to provide an efficient and convenient mode of transportation to the riding public but also to ensure their safety and security while inside LRT-2 premises,” the LRTA chief said in a statement. (With reports from Aerol John Patena/PNA)
