Medical experts advise on firecracker-related injuries; EAMC all set for firecracker casualties

Consequent to the habitual and unassailed use of firecrackers by Filipinos during New Year’s Day’s eve, medical experts counsel the public to carry out the following steps to alleviate initially firecracker-related injuries.

Wounds derived from firecrackers must be washed with water for 10 minutes to flush all gun powder and other substances there. Deep wounds may result in tetanus that leads to death.

For burns, application of anti-bacterial ointment is advised. Doing of other preconceived treatments must be shunned, such as spreading tomatoes on the wound, as they will not help and may exacerbate the harm.

Toxicologists, for their part, inform that feeding of egg white to victims is beneficial only to cases of swallowing a “watusi” and is helpful only for the first 30 minutes of the incident. The victim, further, must not be fed with anything as he will just vomit the food. He must be brought to the nearest hospital.

Health mavens caution the populace in avoiding the use of firecrackers in front of houses to avert any unwanted haps.

In separate information, the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) is now predisposed to accommodate individuals afflicted by firecrackers. The tools and equipment of the medical institution are likewise set.
