8 PDLs recover from COVID-19

Eight persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who stayed in a quarantine facility inside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) have finally recovered from COVID-19.

The said inmates are those who previously tested positive for the virus at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City. They will be staying in the isolation area at the CIW for one week.

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said the survivors will be retested using rapid and PCR tests. If the virus is totally gone, the inmates will be returned to their cells.

The inmates were given a warm welcome by medical frontline workers. They said they are thankful that they have escaped from the hold of the deadly disease even if they are unsure when they will be freed from prison. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
