MMDA says road situations a result of thorough vehicle inspection

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) explained the seemingly return to normal situation of some roads amid the MECQ is a result of careful inspection of authorities on every vehicle in checkpoints.

The MMDA has been continuously coordinating with the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) to relocate some checkpoints especially on main thoroughfares that are experiencing heavy volume such as Marcos Highway and EDSA to address the situation.

MMDA Traffic Chief Bong Nebrija said they have temporarily removed checkpoints in EDSA and are planning where to place them.

Meanwhile, the MMDA disclosed some plans it intends to implement after MECQ is lifted in NCR such as the designation of the innermost lanes of EDSA for buses and the outermost lanes for bicycles while existing and additional footbridges for bus stops will be used by commuters to cross EDSA. – Report from Mica Joson
