Quezon City launches telemedicine system

With the purpose of boosting government community response, the local government of Quezon City has launched its telemedicine system to provide additional medical assistance to COVID-19 patients.

The new system will enable patients on home quarantine or those in quarantine facilities of the city to immediately communicate their needs to the barangay health emergency teams.

“Ito po ay makakatulong upang hindi po magkaroon ng maraming pumupunta sa mga hospital by accommodating primary case consultations para sa ating mamamayan (This will help prevent many people from going to hospitals by accommodating primary case consultations for our citizens),” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated.

“That way our healthcare workers can focus more on those who need secondary or tertiary or even special care,” she added.

Virus transmission will also be lessened due to decreased face-to-face interaction between medical professionals and patients. The local government of Quezon City has assured that data privacy and confidentiality protocols will be observed. – Report from Sandra Samala
