The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced on Thursday afternoon that its normal operations have resumed following the temporary suspension caused by a fire at the Santolan station.
A fire broke out around 5:00 a.m. at the ground floor of the station which was followed by an announcement of suspension of operations before 7:00 a.am.
“Based on the initial findings, an uninterruptible power supply was burnt and damaged. The UPS is necessary to provide power to LRT-2’s emergency equipment in case of power fluctuation or power interruption,” the LRTA said in a statement.
No injuries were reported in the incident but an estimated 13,000 passengers were affected.
“Several multi-year modernization and rehabilitation projects are underway, including the replacement of UPS at all stations,” the LRTA assured.
The LRTA earlier said that it is investigating if there is a connection between the Santolan fire and the incident of the burnt transformers in October 2019, the repair of which is expected to be completed before year’s end. – Report from PTV News Online, Louisa Erispe
