The Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) confirmed the death of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) leader Furuji Indama in an encounter on September 6 in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.
According to WesMinCom Commander Major General Corleto Vinluan, there are evidences that indicate Indama has been killed despite the fact that they do not have the ASG Basilan leader’s body.
“Base iyan sa report. Ayaw namin sabihin kung paano namin namo-monitor (That’s based on the report. We don’t want to say how we do the monitoring).”

Former members of the group admitted that they have seen Indama severely injured in the encounter. Indama was involved in several kidnapping and bombing incidents in Basilan including the Lamitan blast in July 2018 where 10 casualties were recorded, including 5 members of the Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU).
The ASG leader was long-sought-after by the authorities. The government earlier offered a P6.3 million bounty for anyone who can give information about Indama.
The military has considered his death a great damage to the terrorist group especially that several of its members are gradually surrendering to the folds of the law. Report from Bea Bernardo
