Isabela flood leaves 5 dead, agri sector ruined

At least five casualties were recorded in the Province of Isabela due to the flooding caused by the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

The Isabela Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) explained that the cause of death of the fatalities is drowning.
The typhoon also left farmers devastated because some of their crops have not yet been harvested prior to the flooding incidents. Some of them are now appealing to raise palay prices due to doubled up expenses and losses.

Latest assessment by local authorities show that the sector which sustained the most severe devastation is agriculture, with palay crops sustaining an estimated ₱225 million worth of damages and around ₱80 million for corn crops.

Meanwhile, the Isabela PDRRMO said most of the evacuees have already returned home since floodwater has receded in some areas. It added that roads are now passable despite flooding in few places. The local government guaranteed immediate assistance to all affected residents. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
