Public urged to avoid karaoke parties

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has asked the public anew to avoid having karaoke gatherings this coming holiday season.

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the agency “highly discourages” the activity noting the reported high level of Coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission when an individual sings. The use of videoke is only allowed for limited members of a household without any visitors.

“Tayo-tayo munang pamilya ang magsama-sama at wala munang pupunta sa kapitbahay or pupunta sa barangay hall para magkaraoke lamang (Let us celebrate only within our family circle and avoid going to our neighbors and barangay halls for karaoke sessions),” Malaya advised.

The DILG has already ordered local government units to pass an ordinance within their jurisdiction on prohibiting such activity. The LGUs are also authorized to determine the sanctions for violators. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
