Abdussalam Criminal Group subleader slain


A subleader of the Abdussalam Criminal Group who is connected with the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed in Zamboanga City after a gunfight with police personnel.

The casualty was identified as Samad Awang alias “Ahmad Jamal” who had a standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention charges.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group said authorities were about to serve him the warrant when he fired his gun. His remains were sent to his relatives as a sign of respect for Muslim traditions.

Ahmad Jamal was listed as the 25th most wanted suspect of the Police Regional Office (PRO) IX after being involved in a series of kidnap for ransom activities in Zamboanga City and nearby areas.

A .45 caliber pistol, an extra magazine, and ammunitions were recovered in the scene. – Report from Bernard Jaudian
