5 dead, 3 missing in TY Vicky onslaught

Five persons are reported dead and three people are missing in the aftermath of Typhoon Vicky in the Caraga Region.

According to the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC), three individuals perished in Agusan del Sur and 2 in Surigao del Sur. The respective local governments of the said provinces have ready assistance for the bereaved families.

Regional Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Liza Mazo said that response operations of government agencies are ongoing together with concerned local government units and the local disaster and risk reduction management councils to address the needs of affected residents in the region.

“The local government units siyempre iyong (of course the) response and rescue from the very beginning especially to those trapped residents in some parts of Agusan del Sur, sila ‘yung (they have been the) responders of the local government units and with the help of course with the national line agencies like AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines] ‘yung (the) 401st Brigade, Bureau of Fire, even [the Philippine] Coast Guard especially in Bislig City,” Dir. Mazo shared.

Authorities are now assessing the damage caused by the recent typhoon on agriculture and infrastructure. – PTV News.
