DOH to public: Keep cemeteries clean

MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the public flocking to cemeteries to bring garbage bags as they visit and remember their departed loved ones in observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.

Magdala din tayo ng (Let us also bring) garbage bag,” said DOH Spokesperson Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy in an interview.

Lee Suy made the call as cemeteries usually turn into dumpsites as tons of garbage are collected from these areas after the Undas holidays.

“Every year na lang ipinapakita sa TV na truck-truck na basura ang naiwanan,” Lee Suy added.

He added that bringing garbage bags for left-over foods and food packaging and disposing them properly is important to avoid health problems.

The DOH spokesperson added that the public could also help contribute to the cleanliness of cemeteries through throwing their trash at designated garbage bins. (Leilani Junio/PNA)
