PAF sends disaster response teams to typhoon-hit areas

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) once again has been called into action as the country braces from Typhoons Jolina and Kiko.

Disaster response teams (DRTs) from Tactical Operations Wing Southern Luzon were on alert and conducted rescue and evacuation operations for the residents affected by Typhoon Jolina:

  • Personnel in a PAF Huey II Nr 662 conducted a rapid damage assessment and needs analysis over the affected areas of Burias Island, Masbate City together with representatives from the Office of Civil Defense Region 5. 

The aircraft also conducted search, rescue, and retrieval operations over the coastal areas of Paguiranan, Balud, and Asid Gulf in Masbate to search for eight missing fishermen. Four bodies were retrieved, three were rescued, while the remaining fisherman is still missing. 

  • The PAF provided KM250 vehicles to ferry stranded residents of Noveleta to Cavite City.

  • A total of 25 families (93 individuals) were evacuated from Brgy. Tejero in Balayan, Batangas.

  • The PAF also conducted road clearing operations in Brgy. Dela Paz in Ilijan, Batangas. 

In preparation for the aftermath of Typhoon Kiko, DRTs from Tactical Operations Wing Northern Luzon are on alert and standby.
