Three individuals have been confirmed dead while 14 other reported casualties have yet to be verified following the onslaught of typhoon Jolina in the country last week.
Latest National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report shows that four individuals were also confirmed missing, three others are still being validated, and 19 were confirmed injured.
Jolina also left agricultural damages worth P665,111,679.24 covering 2,511.63 hectares of crops, 328 livestock and poultry, and 360 agricultural and infrastructure equipment.
The damage to infrastructure was also estimated at P63,456,053 with 8,924 damaged houses and 93 other infrastructures that include 68 government facilities, five roads, and eight schools.
NDRRMC said 1,346 barangays, 81,048 families, and 313,373 individuals were affected.
No casualties were reported due to typhoon Kiko, while the NDRRMC has yet to release the estimated cost of damages.
Agri-supply impact
The prices of several agricultural products increased in Region 2 due to the impact of the typhoon, particularly at the trading facility of Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal (NVAT).
“Mas lalo sa bundok kasi halos 90% dun galing yung gulay dito… Ang isang epekto, hindi sila makapag-harvest ng tamang gulang ng kamatis, mahirap mahinog, halos karamihan nasisira na mga tangkay,” NVAT Marketing Dept. Program Development Officer Julio Basilan said.
The Philippine Tilapia Stakeholders Association Inc. said there is sufficient Tilapia supply in Metro Manila despite the typhoon’s impact on Taal Lake.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said assistance is in place for those affected by the typhoon. At least P564,840.20 worth of aid has been given in Batangas, Laguna, and Masbate.
“Ang mga LGU [local government units] nakapag-bahagi ng worth P915,649 worth of assistance sa kanilang nasasakupan,” DSWD Spox. Glenda Relova said.
