ZAMBOANGA CITY – A municipal councilor was shot dead in a drive-by shooting incident Monday (Sept. 27) in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte, a police official disclosed.
Maj. Alexis Bahunsua, Liloy municipal police chief identified the fatality as Ernesto Bihag Jr., 46, an incumbent councilor of the said municipality.
Bahunsua said Bihag was shot at around 12:50 p.m. on Monday in Barangay Comunal in Liloy town.
According to investigations, Bihag was driving his vehicle from Barangay Causwagan to Comunal when he was repeatedly shot by an unidentified gunman aboard another vehicle that overtook him.
Bahunsua said the victim’s vehicle overshot the shoulder of the road and crashed into a mahogany tree as the suspects fled.
Bihag sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
An investigation is still ongoing according to Bahunsua as they try to establish the identities of the assailants. (PNA)
