BIR, DOF studying estate tax liability of the Marcoses

The Department of Finance and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) pursue the discussion regarding the collection of the estate tax liabilities of the Marcoses.

During the economic briefing of the Department of Finance on Tuesday (April 5), Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said the BIR is still studying the amount of their long overdue unpaid tax revenues that have accumulated interest and penalties.

“We have been in discussions with the BIR on this issue and they are studying the issue very carefully. This has been encrusted with court cases and my understanding from the BIR is that they are trying to cut through all these issues in order to do their job,” he said.

The finance chief earlier confirmed that there were no actions from the Marcoses to settle their unpaid liabilities while their cases are pending in court. –Report from Naomi Tiburcio/KC-ag
