Turn off poll jingles when passing by churches: Tarlac diocese

MANILA – The Diocese of Tarlac is appealing to national and local candidates running in the May 9 polls to turn off their loudspeakers playing campaign jingles when passing by churches and other places of worship.

“We appeal for respect to be given to all places of worship as there are sacraments and prayers being held inside, especially on Sundays,” the diocese said in a Facebook post on Thursday (April 7).

Last week, the Diocese of Malolos also issued an appeal to aspirants and their campaign teams to lower the sound of their loudspeakers when they are near churches.

The campaign period for national and local bets started on February 8 and March 25, respectively.

During the said period, campaign activities such as the holding of mass gatherings in public places and motorcades are allowed, where jingles of candidates are being played through loudspeakers. (PNA)-gb
