Luke Gebbie out of SEA Games after catching COVID-19

By Myris Lee

Filipino-Kiwi swimmer Luke Gebbie will miss the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam after testing positive for COVID-19

Gebbie, one of the country’s gold medal prospects, is one of the 16-member of the Philippine aquatics team.

The Olympian had a silver medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay and a bronze in the 50-meter freestyle competition in the 2019 SEA Games.

However, Philippine Swimming Incorporated President Lailani Velasco expressed confidence that the remaining 15 tankers will be able to win a medal for the country.

“Luke has been an inspiration for all of us since he began competing internationally. It is a blow to lose him for the 31st SEA Games but we have to adjust to situations like this. We wish him well in his recovery and look forward to his participation in succeeding events, Velasco told PTV Digital.

“The rest of the team will do their best to make up for this loss,” Velasco assured.

The remaining Filipino tankers will see action from May 14 to 19 at the My Dinh Water Sports Stadium. – gb
