PBBM calls for support for UN Security Council bid

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. appealed on Wednesday, Sept. 21, to United Nations (UN) member states to support the Philippines’ bid for inclusion to the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.

This as he told world leaders at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York that a reformed and more inclusive Security Council will benefit the solidarity of nations.

“My country’s experience in building peace and forging new paths of cooperation can enrich the work of the Security Council. And to this end I appeal for the valuable support of all UN Member States for the Philippines’ candidature to the Security Council for the term of 2027-2028,” he said.

“Our success in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao in the south of the Philippines is the centerpiece of these efforts,” he added, citing peace forged following decades-long conflict among warring factions and clansmen.

Marcos noted that inclusive dialogue conducted with patience and good faith with stakeholders led to a credible and solid foundation for self-government resulting in lasting peace and sustainable development.

“We take the same approach in Asia.  The Philippines builds partnerships for peace and development through dialogue, including through inter-faith and inter-religious dialogue especially through ASEAN,” he said.

“In the face of great diversity, we believe that partnerships form the bridge to unite all of us in promoting peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region,” he added.

The chief executive likewise called on leaders to ensure that all nations are prepared for the uncertainties of the century through a transformative development agenda. – gb
