Rainy Friday due to ‘habagat,’ trough of ‘Karding’

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” and the trough of Tropical Storm (TS) Karding will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Visayas and parts of Luzon, the weather bureau said Friday, Sept. 23.

In Luzon, this weather condition will prevail over Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Bataan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and the northern portion of Palawan, including Calamian and Cuyo Islands.

Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“Karding” was last tracked 1,235 km. east of Northern Luzon, moving westward at 10 kph.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

No tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) was hoisted on any part of the country.

“Karding” is forecast to intensify before making landfall over Northern Luzon on Sunday.

As early as Friday night, TCWS may be hoisted over the eastern portions of Northern and Central Luzon, in anticipation of winds of at least a strong breeze to near gale strength associated with the TS.

PAGASA said the highest wind signal that will be hoisted may be TCWS no. 2.

Meanwhile, PAGASA forecast the rest of the country to experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Northern Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. – gb
