Tropical Depression “Obet” left the Philippine area of responsibility at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

As of 4:00 p.m., “Obet” was at 260 kilometers (km) west of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

“Sa ngayon ay wala na siyang kahit na anong epekto rito sa ating bansa, and also wala na tayong wind signals sa kahit anong parte ng bansa [at] inaasahang malalakas na pag-ulan,” PAGASA weather forecaster Veronica Torres said.

“Obet” is forecast to accelerate westward and head west-southwestward on Sunday afternoon, before it weakens into a low pressure area (LPA) on Monday.

The northeast monsoon (amihan) is affecting the extreme northern Luzon while the intertropical convergence zone is affecting Mindanao.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said it is currently monitoring an LPA 1,525 km east of Mindanao.

“Itong LPA na ito ay may tiyansa na maging bagyo sa mga susunod na araw,” Torres said.  – gb
