Student killed after truck rams university in Cavite

One student was killed while four others sustained injuries after a truck rammed inside the Cavite State University (CvSU) main campus in Indang on Monday, Jan. 23.

According to the Indang Municipal Police Station, the students were reportedly sitting on the school stairs while reviewing for their final exams.

The truck driver, Federico Bakula, reportedly forgot to apply the handbrake so the truck slid down and went straight to hit the five students.

The lone fatality, a first year student, was declared dead on the spot, according to the report.

The four victims were rushed to General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

In a statement, the CvSU said it is saddened by the accident.

“We would like to assure the public that the University is providing the victims and their families with necessary assistance,” CvSU said in a statement.

“Administrators of the University are closely monitoring the conditions of the injured students and ensuring that all forms of support are extended,” it added.

CvSU then reminded the public to refrain from sharing and posting unverified information and photos “that may cause secondary trauma.” With reports from Catleya Antonio and Bernard Jaudian Jr. – ag
