The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) warned the general public against the increasing fraudulent activities of “Mr. Vishing” using the corporation’s Customer Service Hotline.

In an advisory, PHLPost said their customer service hotline is only used to answer incoming calls from the mailing public who are trying to trace where their mail or packages are.

“It is never used for outgoing or outbound calls for verifications on senders or addresses of postal matters,” PHLPost said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology-National Telecommunications Commission has already been notified of the situation according to PHLPost.

The agency is also coordinating with the Philippine National Police and existing telecommunication networks.

The public is also urged to always be vigilant and cautious on sharing personal information in order not to fall prey to “Mr. Vishing.”

Vishing is a criminal racket that uses telephone lines to call would-be victims in order to extract personal information, generate fear against fabricated illegal acts or issues that eventually lead to extortion. – gb
