The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said an inland wetland was discovered in Mulanay, Quezon with sightings of several wildlife species.

According to Barangay Sto. Niño officials, the inland wetland houses the Philippine wild duck (Anas luzonica), Philippine Sailfin Lizard (Hydrosaurus pustulatus), and Monitor Lizard (Varanus sp).

Also sighted in the area discovered by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) were migratory birds such as white egret, herons, and kingfishers.

The wetland is set to undergo profiling to identify its characteristic and classification based on the criteria under the DENR Memorandum Circular No. 1997-17, which are in line with the Philippine Wetland Action Plan’s objectives. – cf
