The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Friday, April 21, that it has extended the validity of driver’s licenses expiring on April 24 onwards until October 31 this year.

This is through a memorandum circular signed by LTO Chief Jose Arturo Tugade on Friday.

“All holders of driver’s license cards expiring 24 April 2023 onwards shall no longer be required to renew their licenses until October 31, 2023 or as soon the driver’s license cards become available for distribution to the public,” the directive noted.

“Further, all penalties for late renewal transactions shall be waived,” it added.

The extension is amid the shortage of plastic cards for the printing of licenses.

“Nagdesisyon po ang LTO na gawin ito dahil ayaw po naming dagdagan ang abala sa mga motorista,” Tugade said.

Earlier, the LTO said it will temporarily issue paper copies of licenses as its card supply may only last until the last week of April.

The LTO said it is hoping that the Transportation department will finish the card procurement process for the resumption of printing.

LTO deputized agents were advised to recognize the validity of licenses that are supposed to expire on the 24th. – cf
