Magnitude 5.8 earthquake strikes Isabela

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Maconacon, Isabela on Thursday morning, May 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic tremor had a depth of 42 kilometers (km) and hit 15 km north of Maconacon at 8:49 a.m.

According to the Phivolcs bulletin, Intensity V was felt in Peñablanca, Enrile, and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan.

Intensity IV was felt at City of Batac, Ilocos Norte; and Intensity II at Pasuquin, Bacarra, and City of Laoag in Ilocos Norte.

Meanwhile, the following Instrumental Intensities were felt in:

  • Intensity V – Peñablanca, Cagayan
  • Intensity IV – Gonzaga, Cagayan
  • Intensity III – Ilagan, Isabela
  • Intensity II – Casiguran, Aurora; Pasuquin, Laoag City, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; Santiago City, Isabela; Tabuk, Kalinga; Madella, Quirino
  • Intensity I – Bangued, Abra; Dipaculao, Baler, Aurora; Narvacan, Ilocos Sur; Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya

At 9:22 a.m. Thursday, another 4.2-magnitude tectonic earthquake hit 32 km north of Maconacon.

Phivolcs said there are no aftershocks expected.
