A 26-year old passenger severed his left foot and sustained head abrasions after falling onto the tracks of light rail transit (LRT-1) Saturday morning, Aug. 19.

In a statement, Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino said the passenger jumped onto the southbound tracks of LRT-1 Blumentritt Station as a train was approaching.

“The train operator was able to immediately apply the emergency brake when the passenger jumped on the tracks,” Aquino said.

Aquino said first responders rescued the passenger from under the train at around 6:33 a.m.

“The passenger was rushed to a hospital, and is currently being treated,” he added.

Full operations of the LRT-1 immediately resumed.
