The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Friday, Jan. 12, reported a record-breaking collection of P883.624 billion in 2023, a 2.46% increase more than the previous year.

In a statement, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio cited the successful digitalization of 96.99% of customs processes under the agency’s five-point priority program.

He underscored the bureau’s commitment to technological advancement and fiscal responsibility.

Trade facilitation efforts also thrived through strategic agreements, strengthened regional ties, and successful international engagements, as well as the ongoing efforts to innovate systems in monitoring agricultural imports have showcased the BOC’s stance in adapting to evolving trade dynamics, the customs chief said.

The BOC also reported that it seized a total of P43.295 billion worth of contraband items last year.

The items were confiscated in 980 operations in different ports across the country.

About 71.95 billion liters of fuel were also marked under its fuel marking program, contributing a value of P234.18 billion in duties and taxes.

He likewise congratulated 605 personnel who were hired and promoted, and announced that its long-awaited 2018 employee rewards will finally roll out in the first quarter of 2024.

The commissioner called on the BOC personnel to continue to work hard to achieve their goals this year.

“Starting off is one thing, but maintaining momentum is another. We work diligently, pouring our time and energy into pursuits. And then time passes, and obstacles begin to take shape and come into view,” Rubio said.

“Maintaining momentum is about pushing through these challenging moments. And I am counting on your unwavering support to carry on with our plans.” – cf
