Two fisherfolk were rescued in Romblon after their boat was allegedly overturned by a whale shark or “butanding”, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.
According to an incident report from PCG-Southern Tagalog, the motorbanca capsized in the vicinity waters off Barangay Cantagda in Cajidiocan, Romblon around Thursday midnight.
The fishermen were identified as Edgardo Lozano, 60 years old, and Harry Lozano, 51. Both are residents of Barangay Maragondon.
“During the inquiry, the fishermen said they were hit by a whale shark while underway, which caused the incident,” the PCG said in a statement.
According to the Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Cajidiocan, the survivors were in good condition when they were rescued. The CGSS personnel assisted in their safe return to their homes.
“The two individuals were transferred to the SAR (search and rescue) team’s boat and headed to the shoreline of Brgy Danao, Cajidiocan,” the PCG added. – avds
