National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago has resigned from his post, Malacañang confirmed on Saturday.

“He (Santiago) submitted his resignation,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a text message.

Castro, however, gave no reason for Santiago’s resignation.

She said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has yet to accept Santiago’s resignation.

“Wala pa po comment mula sa Pangulo as of now,” she said.

A copy of his resignation letter, addressed to the President and dated Aug. 15, 2025, was shared with members of the media on Saturday.

In his letter, coursed through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Santiago said he was tendering his “irrevocable resignation” effective immediately upon the appointment of his replacement.

Santiago said “detractors and those who have sinister interest in my position incessantly make moves to besmirch my reputation.”

Marcos appointed Santiago as NBI chief in June 2024.

In May 2025, Santiago submitted his courtesy resignation as part of Marcos’ directive for agency heads to vacate their respective posts amid efforts to recalibrate his administration.
