The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will conduct a full geotechnical investigation and repair on a section of the Bukidnon-Davao road at Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao in Quezon, Bukidnon, which collapsed on October 18.

In a statement, Secretary Vince Dizon ordered a full geotechnical investigation that would also enable the department to start a detour road.

Dizon inspected the area on Tuesday with DPWH, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and local government officials to assess the damaged road.

He said they will also coordinate with the MGB to address road failure in the landslide area caused by unstable soil conditions.

The DPWH chief noted that their priority is the quick but quality repair of the road, which serves as an important connection between Northern Mindanao and Davao Region.

Also present during the inspection were Bukidnon Gov. Rogelio Neil Roque, Quezon Mayor Pablo Lorenzo III and DPWH-Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) Director Lilibeth Aparecio.

Teams had been mobilized since Sunday to assess the damage, prompting officials to temporarily close the road while they conduct an initial investigation of the area. (PNA)
