Batac hospital first DOH-retained facility to pass PGS initiation

BATAC CITY — Marking its 50th anniversary this February, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) becomes the first retained hospital of the Department of Health (DOH) across the country to hurdle the initiation stage of the Performance Governance System (PGS).

The PGS is considered by the Civil Service Commission to “translate vision to actionable strategies and commitments that lead to breakthrough results under the tenet of true and genuine governance.”

PGS pathway has four stages — initiation, compliance, proficiency, and institutionalization.

Aiming to be fully accredited under PGS highlights MMMH&MC’s commitment to bring improved, quality, and sustainable healthcare to its thousands of patients not only from Ilocos Norte but from neighboring provinces as well such as Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.

DOH Director Criselda G. Abesamis, in behalf of Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, congratulated MMMH&MC for being the first DOH-retained hospital that complied with PGS standards, saying, “this achievement is very timely as you [celebrate] your 50th foundation anniversary.”

With this, she expressed hope that other hospitals under DOH in the country will also follow the lead “with MMMH&MC becoming the big sister for our partner hospitals, not only in [Northern Luzon] but also in other parts of the country to push for PGS accreditation.”

Director Abesamis also noted that MMMH&MC’s steps towards PGS accreditation stays true to the battle cry of Secretary Duque to revitalize health programs under his flagship program which is the F1 Plus, which aims to boost universal health care provision for Filipinos.

Preparations by MMMH&MC are currently underway for the satisfaction of the compliance stage of PGS accreditation in June this year. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
