MANILA — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday destroyed some PHP2.56 billion worth of dangerous drugs in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martirez City in Cavite.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said destroyed through thermal decomposition were a total of 1,012,445.11 grams (1,012.4 kg.) of assorted pieces of drugs, including methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu”, marijuana, ephedrine, cocaine, toluene, chloromethamphetamine hydrochloride, and expired medicines.

Thermal decomposition, or thermolysis, is the process, by which various compounds are broken down into single units by the application of heat. The reconstruction of the substances is impossible through this process.

Aquino led the destruction of the illegal drugs that were recently ordered by the court to be destroyed.

For the past six months, a total of PHP9.14-billion worth of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals has already been destroyed. (PNA)
