‘Caloy’ expected to leave PAR Wednesday: PAGASA

MANILA — Tropical Storm “Caloy” is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

In a phone interview Tuesday, PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the tropical storm is expected to leave the PAR due to its “abrupt” shift to a northeast movement.

He added the weather system is expected to either retain its category or intensify into a severe tropical storm in a lower range due to environmental conditions.

“Caloy” was last spotted 1,045 kilometers (km) east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte as of 3:15 p.m., Tuesday. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, while it moves north at 15 kph.

Metro Manila and other areas, according to PAGASA’s 4 p.m. weather bulletin, will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to local thunderstorms. The forecast is effective for 24 hours.

Moderate to rough coastal waters caused by moderate to strong winds will also prevail over Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

Other parts of the country will have slight to moderate coastal waters pushed by slight moderate winds. (PNA)
