‘Oplan Katok’ nets 13 firearms in Antique

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) has confiscated 13 firearms under “Oplan Katok” which calls for the police personnel to visit the houses of residents with expired gun licenses and those suspected to have loose firearms.

APPO deputy director for operations Supt. Norby Escobar on Tuesday said that “Oplan Katok” aimed to deter the proliferation of unlicensed firearms, particularly this election period in the province.

“The firearms had already expired licenses and were not renewed by the civilian gun owners,” Escobar said.

He said that loose firearms might be passed to the threat groups or might be used by gun owners in harassing other voters, thus APPO personnel conducted the operation right at the start of the election period last April 14.

Meanwhile, APPO has confiscated four firearms and arrested six persons in line with the implementation of the election gun ban.
The apprehension was done during the conduct of checkpoints and police operations in Bugasong, San Remigio and Sibalom towns.

Moreover, one bladed weapon was confiscated in Tibiao town. (PNA)
