Davao City’s newest senior high, tertiary school to open Saturday

DAVAO CITY–The newest school offering senior high and tertiary education in this city will formally open on Saturday, July 8, with President Rodrigo Duterte and Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio leading the ceremony.

The Mapua School, which will bear the name Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM), has 1,233 pioneering students. The school is located on a 2.3-hectare lot along McArthur Highway in Matina district.

MCM Corporate Communications head Edwina Astrid Cuezon said on Friday that MCM offers high-quality education in the field of Engineering and Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Business, Computer Studies, and Senior High School.

“Malayan Colleges Mindanao has come to Davao City with the core vision of transforming students to become globally competitive professionals highly preferred by industries here and abroad,” she said.

Cuezon said MCM distinguishes itself from the rest of the colleges and universities in Davao, and in Mindanao, through its “Learner-Centered Outcomes-Based Education, Blended on-line and face-to-face learning sessions, Industry Partnerships, Mindanao-centric Learning and Advanced Learning Facilities.”

The construction of MCM started in 2016. Cuezon said the school was established amid the increasing competition in the education sector and the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) K-12 program.

Cuezon said President Duterte and Mayor Sara will be joined by Yuchengco Group of Company chairperson Helen Yuchengco-Dee and other school officials. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
