LAOAG CITY — The local government unit of Banna, Ilocos Norte is set to purchase a fiber glass boat, which can be readily used in case of emergency.

Worth PHP300,000, town mayor Carlito “Carly” Abadilla Jr. reported that the amount will be sourced from the remaining five percent calamity fund of the municipality.

Provincial Board Member Da Vinci Crisosto, in his capacity as district board member, presented Resolution No. 2018-126-13 during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday. The said resolution was referred to the committee on appropriation and finance for appropriate action.

During the onslaught of habagat and previous typhoons, residents in the low lying areas of Banna town in the second district of Ilocos Norte were affected by flash flood, prompting local officials to implement preemptive evacuation.

According to Marcell Tabije of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, almost all the 21 towns and the two cities of the province have their own rubber boats but some were already dilapidated, including that of Banna.

In Sarrat, Mayor Remigio Medrano is planning to acquire a dump truck for rescue or engineering purposes, including installation of CCTV and handheld radio worth PHP3.1 million.

Meanwhile, a multi-purpose heavy equipment was recently acquired by the local government unit of Solsona under the initiative of Mayor Alexander Calucag. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
