First day of COC filing ‘successful’

MANILA — The first day of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2019 midterm polls was generally successful, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.

“Overall, very successful ang first day, in the sense na walang aberya (that there was no glitch). Although, may mali na COC forms pero naayos din agad (there were wrong COC forms but these were settled immediately),” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in an interview after the initial day of COC filing closed at 5 p.m.

A total of 27 aspirants for Senate posts and 18 partylist groups have filed their respective COCs during the first day of the filing period.

The poll body official noted that the assessment was based on the stories, reports and social media posts by their personnel in the field.

Jimenez said he hopes the successful first day would become a trend until the last day of the filing period on October 17.

Meanwhile, Philippine National Police spokesperson, Chief Supt. Benigno Durana Jr., echoed Jimenez’s remarks.

“We are happy to announce that as of this hour, wala pa tayong natatanggap na insidente that would mar the holding of the peaceful and orderly filing of certificate of candidacy all over the country,” Durana told reporters in a press briefing. (Ferdinand Patinio with reports from Christopher Lloyd T.
