Construction of 2 flyovers in Zamboanga to start soon

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The construction of the two flyovers aimed at decongesting traffic here will start anytime before the end of this year.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the bidding, awarding and the notice to proceed to the winning contractor to commence the project have been completed.

“The long wait is over, the solution to our traffic problem is here. We have been waiting for this, (as) I have made various representations in DPWH head office and in Congress many times just for this project to materialize,” said First District Representative Celso Lobregat.

Lobregat is the vice chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations.

The first flyover worth P223.2 million will be constructed at the intersection of Gov. Camins and Veterans Avenues, which is in front of the Sta. Cruz Commercial Complex. It is scheduled to be completed in 504 calendar days.

The second flyover, valued at PHP234.8 million, will be built across the Zamboanga City-Labuan highway. It is set to be completed in 552 calendar days.

On Thursday, the winning bidder, FREY-FIL Corporation, presented its program of works during a coordinating conference held at the regional office of the DPWH.

The conference was attended by Engr. Edwin Acol, the project engineer of FREY-FIL Corporation, officials of DPWH and Lobregat.

Acol said they are already moving the necessary equipment and laying down the grounds works to commence the implementation of the project.

“We will simultaneously construct the two flyovers,” Acol said.

FREY-FIL Corporation is a Metro Manila-based firm that specializes in flyover projects, box bridges, expressways, and other major road infrastructures. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr./PNA)
