Batangas disburses P22 M for volunteer workers’ honoraria

BATANGAS CITY – For the first time, the provincial government has disbursed around PHP 22 million worth of honoraria for services rendered by community volunteer workers right.

Jennelyn A. Aguilera, chief of the Batangas Public Information Office, on Friday said the 12,868 community volunteer workers in the province have started receiving their pay this month for the 2018 First Quarter Honorarium directly disbursed to them in batches. The amount was disbursed through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The community volunteer workers include the barangay health workers (BHW), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), day care workers (DCW), leaders of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), and senior citizen and Persons with Disability (PWD) officers.

She said the first direct disbursement of the service pays were facilitated by the PSWDO and PHO personnel in recognition of the community volunteers’ work as local government frontliners in their respective communities.

She added that Governor Hermilando Mandanas spearheaded the move as community workers deserve the attention for their valued services.

The volunteer workers are extension workers of the provincial government who bring the local government programs, assistance and services closer to the constituents and the grassroots in the various barangays, towns and cities, she said.

The Batangas Capitol personnel did the rounds of disbursing the honoraria for volunteer workers in Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Calaca, Balayan, Tuy, Taal and Lemery last April 10; Agoncillo, San Nicolas, Santa.Teresita, Alitagtag, Cuenca, San Luis, Lipa City, San Jose and Ibaan on April 11;

Rosario, Padre Garcia, Taysan, Malvar, Mataas na Kahoy, Balete and Batangas City on April 12; Laurel, Talisay, Tanauan City and Sto. Tomas on April 13; San Pascual, Mabini, Bauan, Lobo and San Juan on April 16.

The provincial offices’ representatives also travelled to the island town of Tingloy for the first time on April 17 to spare the volunteer workers’ from the hassle of traveling and incurring further travel and incidental expenses, which are usually taken from their take-home pay. (PNA)
