BFP calls for prudence in using Christmas lights

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) warns the public in purchasing and using Christmas lights as these decorations may cause deleterious flame. The agency advises that the public unplug Christmas lights before leaving the house or going to sleep to forestall fire accidents rooted from these adornments. From September to October 2019, the agency recorded 2,348 structural, non-structural, and vehicle blaze nationwide, with more than PHP2.8 billion property damage. Electrical connections, lighted cigarette butts, and electrical appliances–these are the top causes of burning incidents.
